Elder Law: Planning for long-term care can’t be left to chance

As we get older, it is very wise to start thinking and planning for the long-term services and supports such as medical and personal care. Disability, illness or simply getting old and wanting some help and presence around means taking a look at all the options available:

  • Home health care
  • Assisted living facilities
  • Transportation services
  • Personal care homes
  • Continuing care retirement communities
  • Skilled nursing facilities

The choice really depends on the needs of the person, whether it’s basic, such as bathing, help getting dressed or more complex tasks, such as maintaining the house or property, managing the person’s finances, medication, food preparation, etc.
